Support for carers

It is important that we know if you are a carer. This is because we can make sure you receive information, services and the help that is available from our practice or other local organisations.

A carer is anyone - including a child and or an adult - who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, and cannot cope without their support.  

As a carer for a vulnerable person, you may be entitled to flu vaccinations and COVID-19 booster vaccinations.

Support for carers

You can find sources of help and support for carers on the NHS website. There are also local voluntary organisations listed below who will be able to provide advice and support.  

Carers in Hertfordshire give support and information to unpaid family and friends who look after someone. 

They provide the space for you to discuss practical and emotional concerns around caring and opportunities to share experiences with others. 

They can also provide the information you need to make choices about your life and caring role. They also offer the opportunity for you to have your voice heard by the people who plan services that affect your life.

Young Carers in Hertfordshire provides support for young people who help to look after a member of your family, who has an illness, disability, or who takes drugs or alcohol. This includes young adult carers aged 16 to 25. Young Carers in Hertfordshire supports you and your family, whatever you're going through. They’ll arrange to come and visit you, to talk about how you’re doing and how they can help and also run activities for young carers.
