Support for patients with a learning disability

If you have a learning disability, you can ask to join our learning disability register. The learning disability register is a list of people who have a learning disability. Talk to the reception team at Whitwell Surgery to make sure that you are on this list.

If you are on the learning disability register your doctor and healthcare staff can make sure that you get the right support in the right ways. They will know to make things easier for you and can make changes to help you if you have an appointment with us. These are called reasonable adjustments.

Annual Health Checks

If you have joined the learning disability register, you can get a free Annual Health Check. If you are 14 years old or over your doctor or nurse will check your health once a year. This is to help you stay well. You do not have to be ill to have a health check.
